MOVEit Security Breach

A Message from the ATU Office of Information Systems to the ATU Community

As reported in national news media, many organizations worldwide have been affected by a cybersecurity event involving a software utility called MOVEit.

Arkansas Tech University does not use the MOVEit software. However, some third-party service providers that share data with Arkansas Tech may have been exposed due to the providers’ and their partners’ use of MOVEit software.

The ATU Office of Information Systems (OIS) is actively monitoring this situation. ATU OIS is working with service providers to determine the extent of the potential exposure. Additional information and guidance will be provided to the Arkansas Tech community as information becomes available.

The following third-party service providers have notified ATU that data about Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff may have been exposed as a result of the exploitation of the MOVEit software:

National Student Clearinghouse (NSC)

NSC provides educational reporting, data exchange, verification and research services to many higher education institutions. Arkansas Tech shares student information with NSC.

Information from the Service Provider: NSC has posted information about this incident to the NSC website, including answers to questions, at https://alert.studentclearinghouse.org.

Information about NSC’s published data privacy and security practices can be found  at www.studentclearinghouse.org/about/our-privacy-commitment. NSC will contact individuals directly if their data is at risk.

The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA)

TIAA is a financial organization that provides investment and insurance services for those working for organizations in the non-profit industry in academic, research, medical, government and cultural fields. Arkansas Tech shares employee information with TIAA.

Information from the Service Provider: TIAA is monitoring participant accounts for unusual activity and, to date, has not detected any as a result of this incident. For additional information on safeguarding accounts and staying updated, visit www.tiaa.org/public/support/security-center or contact TIAA directly at (800) 842-2252 or via email at abuse@tiaa.org. TIAA will contact individuals directly if their data is at risk.
