The ATU Office of Information Systems wants to make all of our Campus Communities aware of a wide spread email spoofing scam that is currently circulating. We are in the process of removing these messages.
If you have received an email with the subject line “Document shared with you: ___” please do not click on any of the links, do not respond, and please delete the email. With the only exception being: if you know for certain who it is from. (Name matches every email address listed, you’re expecting this share, etc.)
The email is received as a Google Drive share that is sent by a person typically shown to be in a supervisory role. Email addresses within the body do not match the supervisor name included. (as shown below)
{Supervisor} shared a document {Supervisor Name} (notSupervisor@wrongschools.net) added you as a viewer. Verify your email to securely view this document. You will need to verify your email every 7 days. Learn more. Re: {Supervisor Name} has shared a file Department Head, Department, userid@atu.edu Professor of ___ Building – Room # 479-###-#### ext #### 2023 MANDATED’ NEW’SRESOURCE.docx Open Use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy |
Spoofing is an attacker doing the best they can to make you believe the message is from someone you trust. These things are sometimes hard to catch, adding what appears to be valid information to make it seem legitimate.
If you clicked on the link, we are asking that you please reset your password as soon as you can.
If you have not, just make sure you delete the email so there is no accidental clicking at a later date.
We appreciate your vigilance!
We rely on all of our ATU Communities to help us remain Cyber Secure – so THANK YOU!
