The Office of Information Systems is pleased to announce that we have started a project to upgrade the university’s Cisco Voice over IP telephone system (VoIP) to Cisco Webex Calling.
Cisco Webex Calling is a cloud-based telephone platform that will further integrate the university’s phone system with Webex. Webex Calling brings more flexibility and new features, such as:
- Tighter integration with Webex
- Voicemail-to-text email deliveries
- A new way to onboard newly hired employees to their desk phones
- New Hunt Group/Call Queue features
- Hot Desking phones that can be quickly set up with your extension for a desired amount of time
- Call recording on-demand
- Better analytics and reporting
- Better alignment with e911 regulations
These changes are expected to be seamless for most users. However, training sessions will be offered for departments utilizing hunt groups or call queues.
We will contact department heads soon to schedule meetings to discuss their current phone configuration and their needs/wants for the new system, demonstrate the new features, and answer questions. Further announcements will be made once a project timeline for the migration is set.
