Please be aware that phishing scams are becoming increasingly common and sophisticated. Phishing is a type of fraud in which criminals use emails, text messages, phone calls, or fake websites to impersonate a trusted organization or individual. Their goal is to trick you into providing sensitive information, clicking a malicious link, opening an attachment, or sending money.
These messages may appear urgent and may claim that your account will be suspended, that you need to verify your information, or that you must respond immediately. They may also appear to come from a university, a financial institution, an employer, a government agency, or someone you know.
Arkansas Tech University will never ask you to provide your username, password, authentication code, Social Security number, or other personally identifying information through an unsolicited email, text message, or online form. Never approve any unexpected Duo requests.
Please also be cautious of emails asking you to verify which schools or colleges you are currently enrolled in. Scammers may use this information to build trust, impersonate university personnel, or engage you in additional fraudulent activity.
Before responding to any unexpected message:
- Do not click links or open attachments.
- Verify the sender’s email address carefully.
- Be cautious of urgent requests or threats.
- Never approve any unexpected Duo requests.
- Report suspicious messages to the Office of Information Systems through the Campus Support Center as soon as possible. You can reach the Campus Support Center at (479) 968-0646 or by email at campussupport@atu.edu.
When in doubt, do not respond. Taking a moment to verify a message can help protect your account, your personal information, and the university community.
